Role purpose
* To perform translational bioinformatics research of an international standard using expression profiling, genomics, proteomics and other approaches to describe disease mechanisms of mental health disorders as well as identify biomarkers of progression, disease and treatment response under the general direction of the BRC-MH Director and the lead for bioinformatics.
* To integrate into a large bioinformatics group comprising post doctoral researchers, data managers, systems administrator and developers.
* To develop a service by applying cutting edge and developing novel bioinformatic approaches to be applied to studies and deliver bioinformatics solutions on time and to target as part of a collaborative team. They will contribute to the overall scientific endeavour of the BRC-MH/BRU-D and provide scientific expertise, advice and assistance to research projects.
* To train and teach academics, researchers and students in the methodologies involved as part of the teaching and training mission.
* To communicate their expertise and research to a range of researchers with different backgrounds.
Role outline - main responsibilities
Key objectives:
* To contribute to the research excellence, service needs and training of the BRC-MH/BRU-D by publishing and communicating bioinformatics research as below:
* Main duties and responsibilities:
Research: Conduct research of a substantial external reputation and maintain a consistent high level output of publications of exceptional quality. This research should be of international quality (or show promise of attaining that standard) and published in peer-reviewed journals.
Sustain high quality research activity through a portfolio of research projects which will help to secure the funding required to underpin the long-term growth of the activity.
Attend meetings and conferences to present research findings and thereby enhance the national and international standing of the BRC-MH and BRU-D.
Benefit from a wealth of data including large-scale sequencing studies from cutting-edge genetic technology. Studies are generating large volumes of omics data with scope for exciting bioinformatics research. Communication & networking:
* To communicate their expertise and excitement in the subject to a range of researchers with different backgrounds.
* To contribute at KCL meetings, external conferences and international meetings as required
* To develop internal and external collaborative support networks for grant applications and publications
* To work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising bioinformaticians, clinicians, scientists, researchers, students and support staff within the BRC-MH and BRU-D as well as other related organisations and develop good working relationships.
* To develop and strengthen collaborative links within the SGDP, the IOP and King's Health Partners.
* To interact Decision making, planning & problem solving:
* Identify strategic development opportunities in research and contribute to the development of these ideas. Service delivery:
* The post holder will apply cutting edge as well as develop novel bioinformatic approaches to be applied to BRC-MH/BRU-D studies as led by the lead for the Bioinformatics group. The post holder will deliver innovative bioinformatics solutions on time and to target as part of a collaborative team. This will include the development of tools for large-scale data analysis, integration and mining involving the analysis of high dimensional datasets, mathematical/statistical modelling and programming in a variety of languages on a Li
